Meet Amanda Farren (left) and Laura Rigney (right), the faces behind The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards.
Both Amanda and Laura fall under the category of "mumpreneur". Both uncovered their entrepreneurial streak after becoming a mum, and started businesses as a way for them to stay at home with their little ones.
About Amanda
Amanda's business Ella Announcements is in it's fourth year, and provides announcements and invitations for any occasion, but primarily focusing on babies and children, as inspired by her own kids. Growing from strength to strength, Amanda has already expanded the business to provide business design, wedding stationery and a range of gifts, but has further plans to ensure Ella Announcements continues to grow.
About Laura
In 2009 Laura launched Totally Gifted, selling handmade baby gifts, however having realised the potential for growth and the kind of success she was looking for in life would not be possible continuing in this crowded market, she had to shut the business down to allow for bigger and better plans. The newly launched Pitcher House focuses on Laura superb sales skills and experience, aiding other businesses in improving their sales techniques and bringing their products in front of buyers and investors.
How did Amanda & Laura start working together?
Amanda and Laura met at a craft fair in May 2009. After realising just how much they had in common, the pair became friends immediately. The following month they had teamed up to work on organising local Baby Fairs, and shortly after, The Mumpreneur Conference. While they may have only been working together a year, their partnership is so natural, you'd think they'd have been working together for a lifetime.
Where did the idea for The Mumpreneur Conference come from?
Back in June 2009, Amanda was trying to come up with an idea for an event aimed at mums in business. Laying in bed, late at night, Amanda asked her husband what he thought. Expecting nothing but a grunt, she was shocked when he unleashed the idea of The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards. The following day, a trip distributing craft fair flyers soon turned into an intense discussion and planning session in the corner of a dimly lit pub. Just a few months later, Amanda and Laura had pulled off a fantastic first conference and awards at the City Inn, Birmingham.
What are their commitments to you?
Both women are truly committed to supporting all mums who run their own businesses, or are starting up in business. With 6 (almost 7) children between them, they are both acutely aware of the problems faced by mumpreneurs, and the support that is needed. They have put together their own personal knowledge, as well as feedback given by other mumpreneurs and 2009 attendees, to ensure that their 2010 event is not only fantastic fun, but provides the support and information necessary to move a business forward.
Amanda & Laura are already counting down the days until September 18th, and working hard on ensuring you all have a fantastic day, so don't miss out and purchase your ticket ASAP!
